C.A.T.C.H. 22 PROGRAM HISTORY:
C.A.T.C.H. 22 began in the year of 1995 with Tim McKennas's determination
behind bringing youth football to his area by starting with 14 kids playing flag
football for 4th thru 8th grades.
In 1997, because of the interest, we moved on to tackle football. This program
was well received in the Jericho and Underhill area of Vermont. It started with
kids playing flag football and progressed to tackle football with 2 teams of
5th and 6th grade and a 7th and 8th grade.
In the Fall 2000 season we started the high-school-aged football program in
our area. We began with two scrimmage games that year with area high
schools.
Since being recognized by the Vermont Interscholastic Football League from
the fall 2000 season, C.A.T.C.H. 22 hopes to double its previous number of
scrimmage games again to what would be considered a near full schedule with
both varsity and junior varsity levels. In Fall 2001 season, we had completed
four scrimmage games.
The enitre C.A.T.C.H. 22 team was pictured in the Mount Mansfield high school
year book and each student players were each given a physical education
credit towards their graduation.
Tim McKenna from Jericho is seen in this picture presenting a check on behalf
of C.A.T.C.H. 22 Youth Football at the 58th Maple Sugar Shrine Bowl game on
August 6, 2011. Tim McKenna, founder of C.A.T.C. H. 22 presents a check in
the amount of $3,300.00 making a grand total amount given to Shriner's
($15,645.00) over the last seven years. The nonprofit responsible for
establishing football for the area has been in existence for fifteen years. As a
fundraiser to benefit the Shriners Hospitals, we have polo shirts for sale
on display at Frontline Fire and Rescue at 5 Corporate Drive in Essex, VT.
I would like to thank the players, coaches, and parents from last years team in
Lamoille County. They participated and supported C.A.T.C.H.22 Youth
Football. Because of their efforts and the following sponsors: Crowley Insurance
Agency, Clark's Truck Center, John Leo & Sons Inc., Karen Torrey, Kershner
Signs, McRae Towing & Recovery, Spafford & Sons, and Vermont Engine Service;
we were able to contribute $2,222 to the 22 Shriners Childrens Hospitals at
Half-time of the Maple Sugar Shrine Bowl game. For more information or
